Operated by Budapest City Council, the Deák 17 Children’s and Young People’s Art Gallery presents its exhibition “Talajfogás” (Landing) – artistic trends in the national culture of skateboarding, in which skateboarding appears as an alternative means of transport, a lifestyle and a subculture through videos, photos, objects, magazines, illustrations as well as literary and musical compositions. Participants can therefore view the culture of skateboarding from a completely new perspective in our related activities.

The ‘Plastic Cloister’ museum pedagogical project by Ludwig Museum

Plastic bottles play a significant role in recycling. Loads of them is being produced every day and they can be found pretty much everywhere; from forests and natural wetlands to urban public places. As a result of the shape of the bottle it can be filled with many things, including solid materials, liquids or simply air. When they are connected, they can even be used for circulating certain materials. Owing to its light weight, plastic floats on water, and therefore it is suitable for constructing watercrafts or buoys.
The installation currently being built is a ship-shaped construction, in which the classic shape of a hull is supplemented by the motion of inert and light plastic bottles, induced by the ambient impact of water and wind. Once ready, the ‘cloister-ship’ is going to set sail at 18.00 on Balaton according to our plans.
The installation is going to be constructed 10.00-18.00 on Saturday 25th July, led by visual artist Márk Szabó and museum pedagogue and visual artist Rita Dabi-Farkas, as well as with the help of the visitors of ARTplacc.

music

Music In comparison to previous ARTplacc festivals, more emphasis will be placed on popular music this year. The number of concerts is going to increase, and the selection criteria of bands and performers have also been changed. One of our main goals is to function as a national ‘showcase’ event, whereby everyone can discover the high-quality and progressive contemporary party music that will hopefully become more widely recognised in the near future.

For example the band Blahalouisiana (Saturday 25th July, 21.00) is going to perform, made up of the ex-members of Jacked and Barbara Schloblocher. Lili Walters and her band Dorothy’s Legs (Thursday 23rd July, 20.00) mix the style of the 80s and contemporary hipster elements with such an impressive delicacy that will certainly make your jaw drop. Erika Szurcsik effectively combines the elegance of a countess and the unpredictable wildness of a punk band in her group Gustave Tiger (Thursday 23rd July, 21.00).

After the above mentioned guitar-based bands, Polar Dear (Friday 24th July, 21.00) is going to show us what electronic pop music is like, and two experienced performers, Márton Hó and Barna Szőke will play together in the formation presently known as MYGL (Thursday 23rd July, 21.00). The key idea of the individual Gazsi Rap Show project can easily be traced in its name straight away, and the frontman Gáspár Szőke deconstructs boundaries of art both as a lead singer and a fine artist in such a way that makes his works both unique and really entertaining at the same time. After the concerts, DJs and DJ collectives like Tesco Disco, Decentralizált Pálmafák, the Popméter team, the pair of Dávid Klág and Anita Libor, and Dj Bodoo will ensure that the party keeps going.

design

Design
As part of this year’s exhibition there will be a massive design marquee for the first time in the history of ARTplacc, where you can admire in a spectacular installation and purchase some of the finest works of the best Hungarian designers, including Miklós Kiss known for his Goldenroach project. The selection of the Mono art & design gallery and concept store will include the special capsule wardrobes of Balcsi Original & DVA, Pelso, NUBU, Kezemura, Anna Nemesi, Rubidium and Kis Hungarikumhatározó. Furthermore, you will have a chance to explore the quality works of already well-known designers such as Hannabi, Pos1t1on, Studio Nomad and Codolagni. The Balaton-themed artefacts made by the MOME Design and Art Department will be presented, and you will also have the opportunity to try Stringbike’s bicycles made in Hungary, as well as the street workout equipment of Hard Body Hang and the floating concrete islands of AB concrete.
We will have a suite of interactive programmes too, including the concrete design workshops on Wednesday and Thursday held by MONGE, and the one on Friday by Szövetség39. On Saturday you can challenge your mind with the Logifaces 3D concrete logic game developed by Planbureau, and on Sunday youngsters aged 3-12 are encouraged to take part in the design workshop of Eperfa to paint building blocks.
If you are also interested in the theoretical background of design, come and join us on Friday for a fascinating talk held as part of our partner Design Terminal’s mentor programme, which will address the question of how the yet unknown Central-European design culture can transcend regional boundaries and achieve global success.

Besides commercial galleries and independent visual artists, some of the most renowned national institutions of art are also going to be presented in ARTplacc, including the Ludwig Museum of Contemporary Art, the Robert Capa Centre of Contemporary Photography and the Mai Manó House of Hungarian Photography. Bringing their own selection of materials and programmes all the way from Budapest with some of their activities organised especially for children, they will ensure that this event becomes a memorable experience for visitors of all ages. Apart from the degree exhibition of the Art and Photography Department of Kaposvár University, we present separate projects and documentaries, and you can also take part in panel discussions.

The Capa Centre presents a slideshow of their selected photographs at the 5th ARTplacc Contemporary Art Festival, taken from their Project Room exhibition areas.
The aim of Project Room is to enable the presentation of fresh, project-based, experimental and intermedial works that push the limits of photography and to provide talented young artists with an opportunity to introduce themselves through their very own – and in many cases their very first – individual exhibitions. The relatively quickly alternating exhibitions open for 3-4 weeks can be visited free of charge, and their Hungarian and English catalogue series published in 2015 enables the continued popularisation of exhibitions.
The video compilation for ARTPlacc 2015 comprises selected photographs from exhibitions already presented in Project Room, including Bonded by Ágnes Éva Molnár, Berlin Bhf. by Anna Tihanyi, Everyday Silences by Miklós Fejős, Floating Aspect by Gyula Sopronyi and INVAREBEST by Dorottya Vékony. Furthermore, a slideshow of the project of Young Photographers’ Studio Home Away – Hungarians in New York are also going to be shown.

The KEF (Kaposvár University Faculty of Arts, Photography) is also presented at ARTplacc.

KEF DIPLOMA is a degree show of selected works by the BA Photography graduates at Kaposvár University Faculty of Arts.

gastronomy

Gastronomy
In 2013 we started to show some of the connecting points between art and gastronomy through various programs in the framework of the First Tihany Gastronomy and Art Days, running parallel with the festival itself. We would like to follow this tradition in 2015, presenting European regional dishes “with a twist” so as to associate them with some of the exposed artwork and performances through colour, texture, mood, heat, national identity, etc. We would cooperate with the local farmers’ market to ensure quality, seasonal and local ingredients are use

literature

Literature
This year we are focusing on young artists under the age of 35. The emergence of young writers and poets of new generations has long been a notable trend in literature. Their creative groups and progressive initiatives applying interactive tools and modern ideas play an undeniably remarkable role in igniting passion for reading and writing. Luckily, their enthusiasm is both valuable and catchy, and for this reason ARTplacc is devoted to presenting emerging young talents in literature, similarly to other branches of art. We are introducing young writers and poets from our neighbouring country Slovakia in particular, whom we also look forward to welcoming as our distinguished guests of next year’s International Book Festival.

Participants:
Members of the MOME Department of Literature
The authors of Gömbhalmaz Group
